What backfill months means in AEP and CJA

What the backfill months option means in Adobe Experience Platform and Customer Journey Analytics, and what data it does and does not bring in.

Quick answer

Backfill months tells Adobe how many months of historical data already available to the platform to process and make usable. It does not pull data from outside systems. In AEP it makes older data available to Profile, audiences and destinations; in Customer Journey Analytics it loads that many months of past data into the connection for reporting.

How it behaves

  • It only uses historical data already inside the platform or source connection.
  • In AEP, older data is reprocessed so Profile, audiences and destinations can use it.
  • In CJA, the connection loads the chosen months so Workspace can report on them.

Choosing a value

More history gives richer trends and lookback windows, but increases processing time and may count towards licensed volumes. Agree the value with analytics stakeholders and check your contract limits.

Frequently asked questions

Does backfill import data from my data warehouse?

No. It only processes data already available to the platform or source connection.

Can I change backfill later?

Options depend on the connection type; review current Adobe documentation before relying on a change.
